A Good Girl Band?????
I saw The Start open for Sugar
Ray and Uncle Kracker in Seattle and at firt I admit I was like "(...)
another chick band". But I started to like the sound. I left wanting their
cd!!! I cant find it anywhere in stores so I got MP3s of it and now I want the
cd! (See, file-sharing is good for bands) I ordered it just now so Im happy.
Ive NEVER ever liked a chick band before cuz they are all whiny, boring, and
man-eaters. But wow! The Start has an orignal sound: a mix of rock and techno.
Though it never hits any hard rock-outs it still has a little something in the
music that keeps you listening. The singers voice is sexy, yet full of energy.
My favorite songs are TIME and MELT. Melt is one of my faves becuase in the
chorus, her voice get so damn sexy. This album is so damn sexy. Hell, Im so
damn sexy!

Review #2:
The Start Of Something Wonderful
I could summarize my review in
five words: This is an amazing album! To me, SHAKEDOWN! sounds like all the
best elements of Missing Persons, No Doubt, Flock Of Seagulls, and early Charlie
Sexton combined with The Starts original style. I think someone else on this
page said theyre retro-80s new wave in the best way possible. I couldnt have
said it better myself. Whats brilliant about this band is that theyre a post/punk,
new wave retro-80s freaks wet dream, but yet they dont seem too dated in todays
current music scene. This album is very energetic and dynamic. All the songs
seem to be in the same vein, but it never gets stale. Only the last song is
remotely balladesque. The bottom line is that the entire album is good. Id say
if you like the song "Gorgeous" theres a 98% probability youd like
the rest of the album. Even if you dont like the single, you still might like
the album. I dont know how theyre gonna top this one, but hopefully its the
start of something even more wonderful to come.

Review #3:
I can bleed....
So... they may be a bit MTV-pop-drivel-driven, and yes, alterna-grrl-rock... I still love this album. The catchy tunes and lyrics are refreshing and uplifting. Aimees got one of those voices that does it for me. Its reminiscent of Ms. Stefanis, yet different all the same. The later tracks on this album are my personal favorite. I lived for "Her Song" for about three months, which is a long time for someone like me with an ever-changing appetite for music. Death Via Satellite, the second START album (EP) is better track-for-track than Shakedown. Id recommend picking that one up. Its got an unpolished vibe that makes it feel like it should have been theSTARTs first major release. If you really want to rock, find Electralux... Enjoy!
