Z: Will you guys introduce yourselves?
A: Hi, Im Aimee.
E: Im Aimee! Im Aimee!
Z: What do you guys have planned
for after this tour?
A: Were actually coming right back here!
Z: Yeah?
E: Well be back here
A: Were gonna go pick up our van and our trailer and were coming
back to Kansas and were gonna lock ourselves in Billy, our drummers,
Moms basement for about 3 weeks.
Z: Sounds like fun!
A: Were goona try and write the rest of our record.
Z: Right on. You guys have some
of the new record written already?
A: Yeah.
E: Yeah, but there is no try. There is only do or do not.
A: Eriks here to give proverbs!
E: Thats a yoda proverb.
Z: Whats it like being on
an all-girl tour?
A: The dance parties are better!
E: I dont even consider it an all-girl tour.
A: Cuzz its not. Eriks got a penis [laughs]!
E: Jamie has a penis, and Billy, and Kevin, Johnny
A:
has a penis, Josh had a penis, Bill has a penis
theres a
lot of dick!
Z: Maybe theres actually more boys on the tour.
E: Its actually even.
A: Its half and half.
E: We figured it all up, and with all the production staff and everybody everything
is equal numbers
Z: Ive seen you guys twice now and I really like you guys! What would
you say your show is all about for someone who hasnt seen it before?
A: For me personally, the second I step on stage, I feel like Im running
for my life until I finish the last song so thats what
I mean, thats
literally what its like for me. I have a little bit of stage fright so I think
to conquer it, I try to get out as much energy as I can [laughs]!
E: What was the question again [laughs]??
Z: For someone who hasnt seen you before
What is your show like for
someone who hasnt seen it?
E: Full-throttle. Anybody who sees us is definitely gonna see a show. Theyre
not just gonna see a bunch of shoe-gazers. Were gonna give
200% or 300% or 400%.
Z: I like that.
E: Usually, its 500%, it depends on the elevation
A: I think its 4.
E: 4%?
A: 400.
E: Depends on the elevation.
J: I expect a lot from Billy tonight cuzz hes from here.
E: Yeah.
A: Actually, hell probably screw up because hell be nervous.
E: Nah, I bet he doesnt screw up.
Z: Is his family coming to the show tonight?
A: Oh, yeah!
J: Probably filled the whole [guest] list up.
A: Yeah, hes got all the Brimblecom people.
E: But yeah, if nobodys ever seen a show, theyre gonna see a show!
Thats one of the cool things about being in the Start, seeing the Start,
is theres gonna be a show.
Z: Where you guys in other bands before the Start?
A: I was in a band called Human Waste Project.
E: Jamie was in a band called Snot. Billy was in the Creature
Comforts and
A: Erik was in a band called Kissing Chaos.
E: Kissing Chaos, played with Sparta, all the rest are
trivial.
A: Spartttttta!
E: Sparta. Sparta was the only cool band Ive ever
no, I shouldnt
say cool band. The coolest band I was in was Kissing Chaos, but
now the coolest I was in is the Start. But Sparta is the only band
that people know or have heard of.
[Aimee reaches over, picks up an
air-freshener, put it to her nose, and sniffs it.]
A: OHHH! OHHH!
E: You were asking for it! [We all laugh.] I saw you going for it and I was
like, What is she
theres no way
thats gonna kill
you!
A: Oh, I wanna vomit.
Z: Do you ever do that before a show, do you ever get like so nervous
you
smell air-fresheners and just
A: No, but I do have an impulse-control problem. Like when I was younger and
I would go skiing in the mountains, I would really wanna jump off the ski lift
and Id usually catch it just before. But that [sniffing the air-freshener]
was an instance of me not catching it. Like I hit my Uncle on the head with
a wrench once because I just
its that bizarre impulse-control thing.
Z: Do you have anything? [Points to Erik.]
A: Probably makes for a better show! [Referring to her impulse-control problem.]
Erik has a lot of impulse-control problems. He also has A.D.D.
E: Yeah, Im actually pretty calm right now. Im surprised by it because
Im crashing on the coffee buzz. He has T.C.D. too. [Laughs.]
E: Ten cups of coffee syndrome?
A: Terminal child disorder.
E: Oh, yeah. Im just a big kid.
A: Or P.C.D., permanent child disorder.
Z: Oh, theres a puppy!
A: Thats Eno.
E: Thats ENO!
A: The world famous.
E: Eno is the 5th
6th
actually the 4th member , I think Im the
5th member.
A: The Start dog.
E: Actually, Eno is the 3rd member. Actually in his eyes, hes the 1st
member. Then Aimee, then Jamie.
A: Eno! Eno! Eno! Eno! Hes totally in to you! [Eno is sniffing my shoes!]
Do you want some salmon treats?
J: Nope, he wants to smell Anna.
Z: Does he ever come to the show?
A: His ears are very large, so no.
E: He likes to come but hell only come if theres a place for him
to sit and chill in the back. But when hes got a big bus to sit on
lots
of pretty girls bunks he can lay in. Especially that pretty girl. Hi, pretty
girl! [Erik points to a tall guy with blue hair.]
Z: Thank you guys! Is there anything
that you would like to tell your fans?
A: We have a new records thats gonna come out next year- April- and our
new EP is coming out on December 9th on Nitro. We just signed to Nitro.
Z: And the EP is Shakedown or Shakedown is already out?
A: Shakedown was our first full-length record and the EP is called the
Death Via Satellite EP and
E: December 9th.
A: On Nitro with a video added to it. Weve been selling it on tour ourselves
but its never been commercially available so this is the first release were
having on Nitro and you can already pre-order it on the Nitro website.
E: Hopefully when I get home next week, Ill have my own copy of it. My
very own copy! But I already have a copy of it
A: Not like that, though.
Z: You want the new and improved one!
E: My picture is on it now.
A: So thats that. December 9th and then next April the new record will
be out.
E: Well be on tour forever.
A: All year!
Z: Until you die!
A: No, dont say that, dont say that! [We all laugh.]
E: But that doesnt mean skip a show then well be back soon, that
just means you get to see us more.
A: Next year, were going to do a lot of Europe too, and Japan. So in-between
shows is going to get a little longer. Usually were working on like a
2-month cycle. Every 2 or 3 months, wed come through a city
not always
because we were jumping on other peoples routings which is the case this
next year as well. Well be supporting a lot and not doing as many headlining
shows. Id say once every 3 months maybe if were lucky well
be cycling through because were adding in UK, Japan and Europe too.
E: And Australia.
A: [In an accent] Australia!
E: So well be out and about everywhere!
Z: Good deal!
